Playing Catch Up

Good Afternoon,

We have been playing catch up the past two days, cramming in the learning every chance we get!

Yesterday we took some time to celebrate Nora's Birthday!  Happy Birthday Nora!

Today we worked hard on our reading this morning and acted out different verbs!  We also did a sponge painting of the character Little Quack!

This afternoon we had a double math lesson.  We learned about the number line and used it as a tool to help us solve addition and subtraction problems.

We also learned about a tool called the pattern block template.  This stencil has all of our pattern block shapes, and we used it to create a design.  Look how creative we are...

Have a great night!

Packing it in!

Good Afternoon!

We were packing in the learning today!  We worked on our sight words: with  she  me.

We added a new poem to our poem notebooks and read with a partner.

We also took a quick look at the panda cam and had the option to write about pandas in our journals.

In math we learned how to play Train Games.  There were three different versions, the addition train game (green dice), the subtraction train game (red dice), and the challenge (using both green and red dice)!!!  Ask your child which version of the train game they played today.

B is for Bear

Good Afternoon,

Today we worked a lot with the letter B,b.  We practiced the /b/ sound, added that sound to our word chunks, and did some handwriting.

We also made an art project of a Panda Bear.  We had to use the small muscles in our hands to rip apart black paper and cotton balls to decorate this cute bear!

They are hanging in our hall on display!

We have been reviewing a lot of rules and expectations this week.  With our limited amount of school days that past few weeks, it feels like we can finally settle back into a routine.  We can make the most of each day and accomplish a lot of learning when we are following our classroom rules!

Have a great evening!

Day at the Dodge

Good Afternoon!

This morning we took a chilly trip to the Dodge Nature Center.  We spent a very short amount of time outside, collecting nature before venturing indoors to warm up and make paper!

Ask your child to describe the paper making process.  Remind them to be specific!!!

We also had a lot of new items in our classroom to kick off the second half of the school year.

Busy Bees

Good Afternoon!

What a fun day we had today!  We started out this morning by celebrating Madeline's 1/2 birthday with doughnuts!  Yum!

Then we painted flowers to create a garden setting, just like in our story this week. They turned our very colorful.

We did some picture sorting, listening for the middle i and a sounds in words.

We also had some friends finish their publishing on the iPads!!!  How exciting!

Here are some published pieces!!!

Have a great afternoon!

Double Post

Good Afternoon!

Due to our building wide internet outage, we have a double blog post today :)

Yesterday we celebrated Mackenzie's 1/2 Birthday!

We also worked hard on finishing our fancy writing so that we will be ready to begin publishing on the iPads!

Today, we worked with the poem, "Itsy Bitsy Spider."

We talked about the two different sounds that the letter I,i can make and how both of the sounds could be found in this poem!  We had different gestures when we found a short i sound:

and a long i sound:

This afternoon some friends joined together to make a giant snowflake!

Have a great night!

Hibernation

Good Afternoon,

Today we added the poem, Hot Cross Buns to our poem notebook.  Poem notebooks are being sent a day early this week-Happy Reading!

We created a winter scene full of hibernating animals today.  We colored the scene with realistic colors, added the animals into their winter beds, and then topped it off with some snow glitter!

In journals, we switched roles.  Students who worked on fancy writing yesterday explored the ipad app and students who explored the ipad yesterday worked on their fancy writing!

See everyone tomorrow!

Love,
Mrs. Huettl
