Good Afternoon,
We had a lack of a camera in the classroom today :( But that did not stop us from engaging in lots of learning today!
We added the Gingerbread Man poem to our poem notebooks and found LOTS of our sight words!
We measured items with gingerbread man cut outs. These are being sent home. Have your special kindergartener show you how they measured using the gingerbread men. :)
We also celebrated Leo's half birthday today!
Have a great afternoon! I hope to have more photos for you tomorrow :)

Mrs. Huettl

Measuring the Season
Good Afternoon!
We worked on the letter P,p today and learned a new poem, "Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater."
This afternoon we worked on a great measurement project. We compared the lengths of strips of paper and then put them in order, forming a tree! They turned out great and are hanging in our hallway for all to see :)
Have a great evening!
Love,
Mrs. Huettl

New Words!
Good Afternoon-
Brr...that chill in the air is hard to shake!
This morning we introduced three new sight words: my we like. We also added some new amazing words to our vocabulary:
This afternoon we had SMART time, check out some of these pictures:
We also talked about measuring things. We used the words longer and shorter to describe the length of objects. Then, we measured the objects with cubes.
Have a wonderful evening!
Love,
Mrs. Huettl

S is for Snow
Snowy Greetings!
The excitement was in the air today! We could hardly contain ourselves, just waiting for recess time to roll around so we could get out and play in the white snow!
This morning we worked on building our stamina again. Going back to practice these behaviors helps to continue our muscle memory and ensure that we have quality time with books each and everyday!
We sponge painted animals from our story and labeled them with our amazing words. We had a choice between an armadillo or a tortoise.
We also practiced writing that tricky letter S,s-making sure they did not disguise themselves as Z, 2, or 5!! :)
We had our first attempt at reaching our writing goals in our journals! What a success!
Some friends took the Super Improver challenge and wrote two sentences!
Enjoy the snow this evening and drive safe.
Love,
Mrs. Huettl

Let It Snow!
Good Afternoon,
Everyday I am thankful for the abundance of windows we have in our classroom, but today in particular was special. Watching the snowflakes fall this afternoon, and experiencing the joy of the children as they talk about all the fun activities involving snow-makes you forget about the sloppy commute home :)
Today was a great day of learning. We searched for the letter S,s in our new poem.
We did a guided drawing, where students must listen to directions to know what to draw onto their paper. Our end result was a blackbird to illustrate our poem!
During our journal time today each student was given an individual writing goal. An important piece of goal setting is sharing your goal with someone. We shoulder-shared our goals on the carpet. Tomorrow we start earning stickers towards our goals.
This afternoon we continued to work on number writing and also started an art project that will decorate our windows for the next couple of weeks.
Have a wonderful evening!

Thankful
Good Afternoon,
I apologize for not posting with last Tuesday's activities! We had a great time adding our two new poems to our poem notebooks!
We also finished our symmetry turkeys.
In guided reading, we continue to work on words in the -at and -an families. Here we made a list of real words and nonsense words in the -at family.
Today we got back into the swing of things. We discussed new vocabulary, started new word work choices, and read our new story for the week.
In math we practiced writing our numbers 1-3.
We are working a lot on "teaching" our neighbors. Your brain can understand and process information better when you are able to teach someone else. We are working on, "Teach-OK." Ask your child about this tonight.
Another new addition to our classroom is the Super Improver Wall. With the Super Improver Wall, students are rewarded for their academic and social behavior improvements. They are in competition with themselves! Students are able to move through ten levels of super improvers, the first four are pictured below.
And of course, it was great to be back with our friends again!
Have a wonderful evening!
