Word Hunters

Good Afternoon!

This morning we were word hunters.  We searched our classroom library books for words that began with W and J.  We quickly found out that words beginning with W were much easier to find!  We also reviewed our color words.

Our new poem this week is Jack and Jill.  We changed the poem up a little bit by changing the names, nouns, body part, and ending verb.  Our new versions were hysterical and so we decided to write our own versions on the bottom of our poems for our poem notebooks!

We also reflected on our kindergarten year-to be shared at our End of Year Celebration.

This afternoon we started to construct our May Day baskets that we will deliver on Thursday afternoon...hopefully the rain/snow will have let up a little by then!

Have a great day!

Mrs. Huettl

Subtract with a Pirate

Good Afternoon,

On this cold, rainy day, we learned a new game to play with our sight words.  The game, Bang, will be coming home in Friday folders so your child can teach you how to play!

This afternoon we wrote pirate number stories to use with our Subtract with a Pirate song.  We will be publishing these on the iPads with Mrs. Garrett on Wednesday!

Have a great evening!

Antarctica

Good Afternoon!

We had a busy day finishing up our models of Antarctica.

We also had a special guest, Mrs. Huettl's daughter, Addie!!!  (We are singing a song in this picture)

We have had so much fun learning about Antarctica that some friends even made penguins out of blocks!

Have a great evening!

Penguins

Good Evening!

Happy Earth Day!  Today we made special Earth Day hats and talked about ways to take time to be kind to our earth.

This morning we did research on penguins.  We pulled important information out of the text we were reading.  Then we wrote mini-reports!

We also made penguins out of clay.  We will paint them later this week!

Have a great evening!  See you in the morning!

Love,
Mrs. Huettl

Beautiful Day at Dodge

We had a wonderful field trip to the Dodge Nature Center today!

We were able to hold baby chicks:

Feed chickens fresh grass:

Jump in the hay:

Pet baby animals:

It was a blast!

Last week we celebrated Sada's birthday!  Happy Birthday Sada!

We also participated in Jump Rope for Heart:

We made a city-similar to the setting of our story, Abuela.

Today we played a game with all of our kindergarten sight words.  We had to practice our listening skills and our reading skills at the same time!

Have a wonderful evening!

Give Me an E!

Good Afternoon!

This morning we focused on the letter E,e.  We talked about the sounds that the letter makes and made an -et chunk word wheel.

We also learned a new poem about an elephant.  We found short e's, long e's, and silent e's in our poem today!

We continued writing our If I could fly... stories.  They are turning out fantastic!  We added a description of how it feels to fly in our story today.

This afternoon we took our surveys from yesterday and turned them into graphs!!!  These graphs will be hanging in our hallway for the next week or so.

Have a wonderful afternoon!  Remember tomorrow is Jump Rope for Heart and our weekly reading slip drawing!

3-D Shapes

Happy Friday!

Today we met with our buddies and played the Number Grid Game!  It was lots of fun and a great review of the number grid!

We put together our 3-D Shape Museum today.  More museum items are welcome :)

This afternoon we read one last version of Goldilocks.  This one led to a great discussion.  The roles of Goldilocks and the Bears are reversed in this book.  You have to ask your child about it!

We spent some time reading from our poetry notebooks today as well!

During choice time, we had some very creative friends!  Drew made a Sneetch!

Nora and Eden made "I love to read" jewelry!!!  How cool!!

Congratulations to Lucy!  Lucy is our second book winner for the April reading incentive!  Keep bringing in those slips-we will draw on Wednesday next week.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Huettl

Writing on Paper

Good Afternoon,

We read another, more comical version of Goldilocks today:

We also searched for the letter G,g in our new poem Bingo, and practice our letter G,g handwriting!

In science we wrote on our paper samples with pencil, crayon, and marker.  Then, we answered questions such as

  • Which type of paper is good for writing a letter?
  • Does the ink soak into the paper or sit on top?
  • What makes paper easy or hard to write on?
  • Which paper was most fun to write on?

This afternoon we started our discussion on 3-D shapes.  We will start putting our museum together tomorrow, so bring in those real world shapes :)

We also had SMART time this afternoon.  We put together words with blends on the balance beam, and practice counting backwards while rocking on the spooner board.

Have a great evening!

Love,
Mrs. Huettl
