Good Afternoon,
Today was very exciting and full of a lot of energy! We went on our first field trip to the Dodge Nature Center! We started in the amphitheater where we had some friends act out the life cycle of a tree.
Then, we played a game in the yard. Every student was given a card and when Matt, from Dodge, yelled, "TREE!" we all had to run to a carpet square. To successfully make a tree we needed five things: seed, fresh air, soil, water, and sunlight.
We broke up into two groups and walked around the Dodge looking at different trees. We saw many different kinds of trees! We saw some with really big trunks, some with small trunks. We saw one tree that looked like it was made out of pennies! We even saw an apple tree!
Before we left for the Dodge, we had a busy morning. We continued our job of building stamina with read to self. We want to become Super Readers, and just like a Super Hero, we need to train our bodies to be ready! Our goal was to read for 2 minutes today, and we actually read for 2 1/2 minutes!
We had two Mystery Letters today. We started with the letter A,a. Because A,a is a vowel, it makes two sounds. We put apples for the short a and acorns for the long a onto our papers. Both of these come from trees!
Our second letter was a bit tricky! We put holes into the letter H,h. First we had to cut out the letters so the hole punches would reach. Then we punched holes. We had to use the tiny muscles in our hands, and this was tricky! Finally, we glued our H,h's onto a colored piece of paper.
This morning we also talked about being peacemakers. We discussed ways we can be peaceful and ways we sometimes are not peaceful. We want Somerset to continue to be a peaceful place:)
Have a great evening!
Love,
Mrs. Huettl
