Good Afternoon,
Today was Picture Day! We took our pictures right away this morning-before we even had the chance to do anything that might mess up our clothes or hair! Heads up-we will be taking our class picture on retake day-October 11. (I will send an e-mail as well)
Our Mystery Letter today was S,s. We used (ready for this?) sparkly star stickers to decorate our S,s page!
We reviewed our rules a lot today-not because we weren't following them, but to get them stuck into our brains. We talked about having "Brain Power." Our brains will learn things faster and hold onto information longer if we say things out loud, while doing doing a gesture. We reach more parts of the brain this way-hence Whole Brain Teaching :) See if your child knows the gestures that accompany our classroom rules. We also read a mini-book about our classroom rules today. Students are asked to read this book to three different people tonight at home (this includes younger/older siblings and/or pets and stuffed animals).
In math today we practiced using multiple senses to count. Typically when we are counting, we use our eyes. We are looking at objects and we may point to them and count. Today we tried counting using our ears. We listened as Mrs. Huettl dropped nuts and bolts into a canister. Each time we heard a clank against the can, we counted. After that, we used our sense of touch. We each got a partner and tapped our partner on the shoulder. The partner had to count each tap and report the correct number, and then roles reversed!
This afternoon we made our first entry in our journals. Our goals today were to:
1) Write the date (9-12-13)
2) Draw the picture that stays inside the provided box
3) Use four or more colors
Check out some of our great work!
You may or may not have heard about our friend Zero the Caterpillar. Zero is a part of our classroom family and each day we are at school, we add a body part to Zero. This morning we added Zero's eighth body part. It will be fun to watch him grow, just as we will grow each day at kindergarten!
At choice time today we opened up the Writing Center! This center is like a creation station. Students are provided with lots of supplies to create just about anything they would like. :)
Have a wonderful evening!
Love,
Mrs. Huettl
