Mystery Letters!

Good Afternoon,

Today we started our Mystery Letter routine.  Each day we will be introduced to one or two "Mystery Letters."  We will study both the upper and lowercase letter formation, letter name, and letter sound.  Today our Mystery Letter was L,l.  We sang a song about the letter L and wrote both the upper and lowercase L,l in the air with our finger!

Then we decorated an upper and lowercase letter L,l using leaf stickers!  These were sent home in your child's BEE book.

Later in the day we practiced our letter formation with the letter L,l.  Ask your child about how to old a pencil.  There should be parents in the front (thumb and pointer finger) and all the kids (middle finger, ring finger, and pinky) in the back.

We started our discussion on why we have rules at school today.  We came up with two important reasons:
1) Rules keep people safe
2) Rules help us to learn more (not wasting time redirecting=more time to learn)

Tomorrow our class rules will be introduced and you will receive a note home that reviews our rules.

Today at snack we had friends help each other open up milk cartons!  Kindness is everywhere here at Somerset!

Just before recess we ventured down to the library.  We will begin checking out library books next week.  Our library day is Monday.  Today we talked about library expectations and read a story on the library rug.

This afternoon we received our first Kindergarten Journals!  Our goal today was to decorate the front and back covers.

Two friends had the opportunity to share their work.  During our sharing time, the person sharing shows their work and tells the class about it.  Then, two people can give a compliment to the person that shared.  At the end, we all give the sharer a class cheer!

We continue to open up areas of our classroom during choice time.  Today we opened up the puzzle area!

Tomorrow we will have our first fire drill.  Please let me know if your child is sensitive to loud noises so I can prepare him/her in the best way possible.

Thanks so much for checking our the blog!

Love,
Mrs. Huettl
